As we wrap up another year, we want to thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care. December is a festive season, but it can also bring unique challenges for pet owners. In this month’s newsletter, we’ve compiled tips to keep your furry friends safe, healthy, and comfortable throughout the holidays and the snowy season.
Holiday Safety Tips for Pets
The holidays bring decorations, special foods, and visitors into our homes. While festive, these can pose risks to our pets. Here’s how to avoid common holiday hazards:
- Toxic Treats: Chocolate, alcohol, raisins, and xylitol (a sugar substitute) are harmful to pets. Keep holiday treats out of reach.
- Decor Dangers: Tinsel, ornaments, and string lights can be tempting for pets but may cause injury or blockages if ingested. Secure your decorations and monitor your pet.
- Visitor Anxiety: With guests coming and going, provide your pet with a quiet space where they can retreat to reduce stress.
Winter Weather Care
The snowy season brings cold temperatures and slippery surfaces. Here’s how to keep your pets cozy and safe:
- Protect Those Paws: Salt and de-icing chemicals can irritate paws. Wipe them down after walks, and consider using pet-safe booties.
- Limit Outdoor Time: Pets can get frostbite, especially on ears, tails, and toes. Keep walks short during extreme cold.
- Provide Warmth Indoors: Make sure your pet has a warm, draft-free spot to rest. Avoid heating pads or blankets that can overheat.
