Happy New Year from Steeples Veterinary Clinic!

As we welcome 2025, January is when we focus on celebrating the arrival of new puppies and kittens! Whether you’re a seasoned pet owner or bringing home your first pet, this newsletter is packed with tips and resources to help your new companion get the best start in life.

Top Tips for New Pet Parents

Schedule Their First Vet Visit: Early check-ups are crucial for ensuring your puppy or kitten is healthy. Our team will guide you through vaccinations, parasite prevention, and diet recommendations tailored to their specific needs.

Socialization is Key: Puppies and kittens learn best during their early months. Exposure to new environments, people, and other pets can help prevent behavioral issues down the road. Ask us about dog training classes and advice for introducing your kitten to their new home.

Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet area with their bed, toys, and water to help them feel secure. Cats, in particular, appreciate having a “safe zone,” so consider a designated cat-only space.

Get Them Microchipped: Microchipping is a quick and effective way to ensure your new pet has identification in case they get lost.

Vaccination Schedule for Puppies and Kittens

Both puppies and kittens need vaccinations at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. These vaccinations are crucial for protecting your pet from serious diseases like distemper, parvovirus, and feline leukemia. During your visit, we’ll provide a personalized vaccination plan to keep your new pet healthy.

Kitten Corner

Did you know we have a cat-only exam room to make visits less stressful for our feline friends? For kittens, early vet visits are a great time to discuss spaying or neutering, proper litter box habits, and how to prevent common cat health issues.

Puppy Playtime

If your puppy has boundless energy, consider enrolling them in one of the dog training classes hosted by local trainers (some have classes right here at the clinic!) These sessions are designed to make trips to the vet a positive experience while also teaching them valuable social and behavioral skills.

Spotlight on Reducing Fear and Anxiety

At Steeples Veterinary Clinic, we’re committed to reducing fear and anxiety for all pets. For new puppies and kittens, this means taking extra care to ensure their first visits are comfortable and stress-free. From gentle handling to tasty treats during exams, we’re here to make vet visits a breeze.
